Training and Public Speaking
Dr Mike Drayton is a Consultant Psychologist, and business coach as devastatingly well – informed, as he is entertaining. He now works in the private sector, having been employed at a senior level in the British National Health Service for many years. Mike is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. He is also an honorary lecturer and clinical tutor at Birmingham University.
Mike has much experience of talking about psychology related topics to different audiences, both expert and non-expert. He has worked on a number of BBC programmes such as ‘Horizon” and ‘Fat Nation’. In May 2009, Mike was invited to present a two day seminar on emotional intelligence in Warsaw, Poland.
Mike says, "For me, the secret of excellent public speaking is engaging with the audience in a warm and positive manner and at all costs avoiding dry lists of facts. My aim is to communicate the topic in a way that people can relate to their day to day life".

Emotional Intelligence in Organisations
People often think money is at the heart of business. Nonsense. The secrete of any good business relationships. The quality of the relationships within the company (in teams for example), and the quality of the relationships the company has with its customers will, every time, determine the success of that company.
The science behind understanding the secrets of relationships is psychology and in particular, Emotional Intelligence.
Here's what it is...
There are four factors in Emotional Intelligence: - Self-awareness - the ability to read one's emotions and recognize their impact while using gut feelings to guide decisions.
- Self-management - involves controlling one's emotions and impulses and adapting to changing circumstances.
- Social awareness - the ability to sense, understand, and react to other's emotions, while understanding social networks.
- Relationship management - the ability to inspire, influence, and develop others while managing conflict.
Each of these factors have associated with them a set of emotional competencies. These emotional competencies are not innate talents, but rather learned capabilities that must be worked on and developed to achieve outstanding performance. Often, a lack of emotional intelligence lies at the heart of problems in organisations.
Mike is an Enrichment Lecturer with many cruise lines including Royal Caribbean and Cunard. Here are the highlights of an Enrichment Lecture on the Independence of the Seas.
