There's an assumption that if you have made it to the top, you must be immune to the effects of constant pressure.  That may be true to a certain extent, but constantly functioning on the border of overwhelm isn't good for anyone's mental health.  This is often made worse by having to absorb other people's stress.

Senior leaders are under tremendous pressure now to do their best and deliver.  People lower down in the corporate hierarchy often have somewhere to go if they feel overwhelmed - such as employee assistance programmes or HR.
